Following a seven-hour-long rescue operation, forest officials and locals rescued a wild tusker from a large agricultural well in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The incident took place at Palacode in Dharmapuri on March 13, 2020, at 10 PM.

According to sources, the wild tusker emerged from the forest in search of water but fell into the dried-up water well.

The locals spotted the stranded animal and alerted the forest officials.

A rescue team was rushed to the spot, who used a massive crane to dig a cavern creating a track for the animal to walk out.

The elephant was later released into the forest.
