Indian doctors extract metal objects from inside the stomach of an 18-year-old in northern India
Indian doctors recovered sharp objects from inside the stomach of an 18-year-old patient's stomach on 2nd October 2020.
The patient identified as only Karan (18) a resident of Bhatwa village in Unnao was writhing in pain and had visited a private hospital in Unnao for a checkup.
The medical scans conducted baffled the doctors for what they saw was inside the patient's stomach.
After a 2.5-hour-long operation, sharp-edged iron tools, 30 three-inch iron nails, a rough-edged tool, a four-inch-long iron rod, four sewing machine needle threaders and a screwdriver was recovered from his stomach.
Dr Pawan Singh, Dr Ashish Puri and Dr Santosh Kumar conducted the surgery and extracted the foreign objects safely.
The patient's father said that Karan was mentally disturbed and had consumed the metal objects.
Dr. Radha Raman Awasthy said: "When we asked the patient, he was unable to tell us as to how he had consumed the metal tools."
"We are monitoring him as he has chances of developing sepsis, but he is recuperating well. Next seven days are crucial for his health and he has been placed under observation."
