Large parts of Thailand have suffered severe floods after heavy rain battered the country since Friday.

Hundreds of homes on the popular tourist island of Phuket in the south of the country were submerged in muddy floods. Footage from one resident shows her wading through the house, with the living room and kitchen submerged by the deluge.

While in Nakhon Ratchasima, northeastern Thailand, motorists battled through the deluge which blocked traffic causing long jams.

A mansion worth 15m Baht was also hit by flash floods after the heavy rain struck Khao Yai, a popular destination in the northeast. Expensive furniture in the luxury accommodations was destroyed by the 3ft deep water.

Rescue teams evacuated residents who have been affected and moved them to temporary shelters. They also helped to clear the damaged areas.

Thailand and neighbouring countries Cambodia and Vietnam have suffered severe flooding over the last week, as the region reaches the peak of its annual rainy season.
