Footage shows a long line of burning trees spreading across a hill in Indonesia.

The fire broke out at a protected forest area in Anak Dara Hills, West Nusa Tenggara province on November 13.

Aditya, who lives nearby, said the fire spread quickly and could be seen from their home after a few hours.

He said: "The flames were enormous. Even from a distance, the flames that formed the line could still be seen clearly."

Firefighters struggled to put out the blaze because it was engulfing a thick strip of trees on the steep side of the hill.

The windy weather also contributed to the fast spread of the fire that had gone up to three-metres high.

Local Forest Management Service official Ayub, said the firefighting team has created a two-meter wide between the trees outside the fire perimeter to stop its spread.

He said: "The thick trees on the steep hills make the firefighting process difficult. We have to make an extra effort."

The team successfully prevented further spread of the fire but the engulfed patch of forest remained burning through the night.

Ayub added: "We don't know how much land is burned yet. The land that is burning is the savannah area."

There were no casualties reported as the team immediately closed the camps and prevented visitors from climbing the hills after the fire was reported.

Anak Dara Hills is a popular hiking attraction for climbers in the district because of its beautiful scenery.
