Indonesian Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) releases a slow loris to a forest reserve in West Sumatra province.

In footage filmed on Wednesday (24 February) in Maninjau forest, Agam district, the Agam resort BKSDA officer is seen carrying a pet carrier containing a slow loris.

It took a little time for this shy animal to come out to grab a branch to quickly climb a tree.

The controller of the Agam BKSDA forest ecosystem, Ade Putra, said that this slow loris was previously discovered by Lubukbasung residents when this rare animal came down from a power pole on Monday night (February 22).

"This is a rare and protected species of slow loris or nycticebus coucang, which was handed over from residents of the Lubukbasung community which was found on the power line," Ade said.

A resident who took part in capturing the slow loris was going to keep it, but as the slow loris is protected, it is reported to the sub-district head to be handed over to BKSDA officer.

Before released into their habitat, officers took the slow loris for observation.

Slow lorises are endangered species and are protected by laws regarding the conservation of natural resources and their ecosystems in Indonesia.

Residents are prohibited from maintaining slow lorises and if people find slow lorises they are advised to hand them over to the BKSDA.
