Police in Malhawani, Madhya Pradesh, uncovered an illegal opium farm concealed among other crops.

Footage from February 24 shows the produce being uprooted and seized by police who later revealed it was worth around $54,700.

The farm is located 15 kilometres from the Picchore police station and the owner of the farm had fled the scene as the police arrived.

A search operation is ongoing to capture the farm owner.

Cops uncovered an illegal poppy plantation in central India's Madhya Pradesh on February 25.

The incident took place in the Malhawani village, located in the Pichhore block of the Shivpuri district.

Visuals show the poppy plantation spread across a huge section of the farm. The police officials inspect the crop and gather them together by uprooting them.

Later, several heaps of the seized crops rest outside the police station while the officials further investigate the matter.

Acting on a tip, the police officials busted an illegal opium farm and seized crops worth about Rs 40 lakh ( USD 54,700).

The farm was located 15 km (9.32 miles) from the Picchore police station and was surrounded by other crops, concealing its true nature.

However, the owner of the farm absconded from the scene upon the police's arrival, and a search operation to find him is underway.
