Local residents in Indonesia found a three-metre-long python near a chicken coop behind their home.

Footage filmed on Friday (March 3) in Lubukbasung Agam, West Sumatra Province, shows firefighters preparing to catch the python with special tongs.

When approached by officers, it turned out python wasn't free to move as its body trapped in the chicken coop safety net.

Officers can be seen in the video cutting the plastic rope net wrapped around the python's body to free it.

Mursyidi, the chicken coop owner, said the python was seen for the first time crawling towards the chicken coop when it was raining at around 2:00pm.

"We immediately reported it to the firefighters. Luckily the snake didn't enter the chicken coop, because it was trapped and successfully helped by the officers," Mursyidi added.

The python was then put in a sack to be carried and released into the wild far from settled areas.
