30 lbs of cannabis worth $3,217 seized from smugglers in southern India

There has been a spike in smuggling cases amid the pandemic in southern India's Telangana on July 8. The incident took place in Nizamabad.

Visuals feature the officials recovering seven packets wrapped with adhesive tape from the smugglers. They further keep the concealed bundles crammed with cannabis on the counter while the senior officer discloses the entire matter to the public.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials apprehended two smugglers boarding their bus from the Pitlam bus stand and seized seven packets of cannabis weighing 14 kg (30.8 lbs) worth Rs. 2.4 lakh (USD 3,217) from their possession. They further arrested two miscreants, identified as Manjunath and Ashok, hailing probably from Mumbai as they were involved in smuggling marijuana to Kamareddy district. Moreover, a case has been registered against them while the officials handed over the matter to another police station.
