A crowd of locals chased away an elephant after it strayed off its corridor in eastern India's West Bengal on July 23.

Video shows a large panic ensuing among the locals as the elephant appears from the forest cover in Goaltore, located in the Paschim Medinipur district. Alarmed, they take matters into their own hands and begin chasing the giant animal away. The curious crowd follows the jumbo to a distance while continuously yelling at it to scare it away.

The elephants in the region are known for straying off their corridors to look for food. They often invade the residential areas and wreak havoc, making the locals familiar with such incidents.

According to a recent report by CNN, around 100 Asian elephants a year are killed by human-related activity as they lose their forest habitats and increasingly come into contact with humans.
