Wild elephant separated from herd, gets captured using crane in eastern India
A wild elephant got separated from its herd, following which it got captured using a crane in eastern India's Odisha on November 2. The incident took place in Sobala village in the Mahakalpara area of the Kendrapara district.
Visuals feature the forest officials and locals cornering the pachyderm using sticks with blazing ends amid a field. Following this, the rescuers cover the jumbo's face and secure ropes around it, tied to a crane's machine arm. Later, they lift the elephant and place it in the back of a truck while a large crowd of curious onlookers beholds the experience from afar.
According to the Divisional Forest Officer, Cuttack Forest Division, Sanjay Kumar Swain the elephant was captured after 10 days operation.
The elephant got separated from its herd, following which it wreaked havoc in at least four districts of the state namely Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur. The pachyderm went into a frenzy after its herd rejected it, following which it trampled an old man and injured two others in different attacks.
However, upon being informed, the forest officials arrived at the spot and captured the elephant using a crane. Moreover, they shifted the jumbo to another forest range in a truck after tranquilizing it.
