As the worst flooding in 40 years continues, residents in West Kalimantan, Indonesia take to rooftops to stay dry as their homes become submerged with water, seen here on November 16.

Thousands have fled, but some have stayed on their rooftops awaiting evacuation.

Floods hit several areas in Indonesia. In West Kalimantan province, floods have submerged houses for four weeks since Thursday, October 21.

In footage filmed in Sintang, on Tuesday, November 16, the water level was still 100-300 centimeters.

Thousands of local residents fled. Some of them stayed on the roofs of houses waiting to be evacuated.

Local resident Leli Marcela in a video shows the condition of her house which is flooded to the height of the roof of the house. He asked the minister for help to come see the conditions experienced by the community and send aid.

"This is near the Kawat river, entered through the SMP 4 school. Please pay attention to the social service because access has been cut off," Erma TB spoke in front of the camera.

According to the Regional Executive Director of the West Kalimantan Forum for the Environment (Walhi), Nicodemus Ale told the media that the flooding in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan is currently the largest in 40 years.

Two indicators of improvement are the coverage of the affected area and the duration of the hydrometeorological disaster.
