Officials in Padang, Indonesia, seized dozens of taxidermies of rare and protected animals.

Footage shows law enforcement officials at a press conference on June 17 where the stuffed animals were displayed.

A suspect with the initial W was arrested and faces a maximum penalty of five years and a fine of 100 million rupiahs (£5,500).

Amongst the taxidermies were a clouded leopard, a pangolin, and a rhinoceros hornbill.

As many as 30 endangered and protected animals were confiscated by a joint team from the Law Enforcement Center of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) for the Sumatra Region, the Center for Conservation and Natural Resources (BKSDA) and the West Sumatra Police.

The confiscated rare animals are dead and preserved as an option.

The confiscation was carried out from the hands of a resident of Padang Panjang City, West Sumatra.

The suspect with the initials W (74 years old) has been arrested by officers and charged with a number of articles on the Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a maximum fine of 100 million rupiah.

The Acting Director of Prevention and Security at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Sustyo Iriyono, said that the disclosure began with the operation to control the circulation and trade of wild plants and animals carried out by the Gakkum team.

“The team conducted an inspection of the workplace for the preservation (opsetan) of W (74 years old) animals in Balai-balai Village, West Padang Panjang District, Padang Panjang City. Feeling suspicious about the place, the team conducted a search, and found all this evidence," said Sustyo.

He said such action is expected to have a deterrent effect for the perpetrators.

"We will not stop taking action against perpetrators of crimes against the environment and forestry," he said.

Protected animals that have been used as ops and confiscated by the officers include the clouded leopard (Neofelis Nebulosa), Sumatran Simpal (Presbytis Nelalophos),
White-bellied kankareng (Anthracoceros Albirostris), Rhinoceros hornbill (Bucheros Rhinoceros), Pangolin (Manis Javanica) and deer head (Cervus Unicolo). In addition, there are forest cat (Prionailurus Bengalensis), Forest Goat (Capricornis Sumatraensis), gold cat (Captopuma Teminkii), binturong and pieces of Sumatran Tiger Skin (Phanthera Tiggris Sumatrae).
