A passing man rescued a baby bird stuck in a drain during a storm in Singapore.

Ziyi Lim noticed the baby black-naped oriole trapped on the street gutter as water flowed across it in Hougang Avenue 10 on February 12.

He picked the creature up and placed it on the grassy patch under a tree but it just hopped around aimlessly as its wings were still wet.

The kind local was worried that the chick might not survive the bad weather so he took it home to nurse back to health.

Footage shows the little bird attempting to fly but to no avail. He carried the tiny feathered animal to his apartment and patted it dry with a towel.

Ziyi said: ‘I found it when I was walking back home from work. It was friendly.'

The bird, later given the name Ong Lai, screeched as it was taken to the strange new home.

Ong Lai ate bread and seeds hand-fed by Ziyi who also prepared its own cage with perch.

Ziyi added: ‘On the first and second days it was very healthy and eating normally. But the next day, it was weak.'

The animal lover is now nursing the yellow bird back to health.
