Terrifying Incident: Mother and Child Attacked by Crocodile While Washing Clothes in Labura, North Sumatra, Indonesia
A horrifying incident unfolded as a mother and her child were washing clothes at a river in Labura, North Sumatra. A crocodile attacked and bit them, causing panic among the local residents. Fortunately, they were rescued, and the crocodile responsible for the attack was captured by the brave locals.
The tragic event took place this morning around 8:00 AM local time in Tubiran Village, Merbau District, Labura Regency. The victims, identified as Raminten (38) and her 9-year-old daughter, Kaisyah, were engaged in their washing activities by the river when the crocodile struck. Raminten was washing clothes while Kaisyah was bathing nearby.
Suddenly, the crocodile emerged from the water and bit Kaisyah's leg, dragging her approximately 10 meters away. Witnessing the distressing incident, Raminten quickly sprang into action to save her child. In her attempt to fend off the ferocious reptile, she also became a victim and suffered a bite to her leg.
Raminten's desperate cries for help were heard by the nearby residents, who rushed to their aid. As they joined forces to rescue the victims, the onlookers also raised alarm calls, seeking assistance from other members of the community.
AKP Jhony Pasaribu, the Police Chief of Merbau, arrived at the scene and confirmed that both victims were eventually saved from the crocodile's attack. Although they survived, both Raminten and Kaisyah sustained torn wounds on their legs due to the aggressive crocodile bite.
Following the successful rescue, the local residents promptly embarked on capturing the dangerous crocodile. The capture operation was conducted at approximately 12:00 PM on the same day. The captured crocodile was then transported to the Merbau Police Station before being handed over to the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Labura. Subsequently, the crocodile will be transferred to the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in Kisaran.
AKP Jhony Pasaribu, the Police Chief of Merbau, emphasized that the crocodile's capture aimed to prevent any future victims. The local community hopes that this action will provide a sense of security for those who frequently utilize the river for washing and daily activities.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder to the residents of Labura and its surroundings to remain cautious when near water bodies that could potentially serve as crocodile habitats. The authorities urge everyone to prioritize their safety and exercise vigilance in such areas.
