This is archive footage of a volcanic eruption in Indonesia, which caused a shower of gravel to fall on villages at the foot of the mountain.

Footage filmed by Zalmi Ameh (42), in Limo Kampuang Village, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, shows the biker ducking while driving away from the village which is being bombarded with gravel.

Meanwhile, thick black smoke from the volcano's eruption could be seen in the sky, enveloping the village.

"The gravel rain came about five minutes after the mountain erupted. Our village is only 5 kilometres from the crater at the summit of the mountain," said Zalmi Ameh yesterday (11/11).

The footage taken on 3 December 2023. The eruption of Mount Marapi that day killed 24 hikers.

The eruption continues today (12/1). Authorities raise alert status of Mt. Marapi and evacuate residents to safe areas.
