Railway officer saves elderly couple from being crushed under moving train
A railway inspector saved an elderly couple from being crushed under a moving train when they slipped while trying to board it as it was leaving the station.
The incident was captured on surveillance footage at the railway station in Surat in Gujarat State, India, in the early morning hours of February 11.
In the video, the elderly couple, identified as Rajnish Srivastava, 61, and his wife Shakuntala Devi, 59, were seen rushing to catch a train at platform number 3.
However, as they attempted to board the already departing Jaipur-Pune Express, the two tripped and fell inthe gap between the platform and the wagon.
Their lives were saved when Assistant SubInspector (ASI) Israr Baig of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) saw them slip and ran totheir help.
Other bystanders also aided the rescue and the couple was safely pulledaside before the train ran them over.
Srivastava and Devi thanked their rescuer, whowas praised as a hero by onlookers, local media reported.
A railway official later said: 'ASI Israr Baig's exemplary display of valor has not only saved the lives of two passengers but has also bolstered the reputation of the Railway Protection Force.
'His actions, aptly dubbed as 'Operation Jeevan Raksha' exemplify the unwavering commitment of railway personnel to ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers, even at the risk oftheir own lives.'
