Three dogs chased away a killer cobra that slithered on a family's driveway.

CCTV footage shows the venomous snake emerging near a sleeping dog, that woke up when it sensed the reptile nearby in Chanthaburi, eastern Thailand.

The brown canine barked at the reptile before two more pooches came to help scare it away.

The trio were successful in making the cobra leave but one of the dogs was injured in its eye when the snake spat its venom into its face.

However, the pooch was taken to the vets and was given medicine to successfully treat it. The pooch has since made a full recovery.

'I was proud of how protective the dogs were,' the resident said.

'Now I feel safe knowing that they will never let any snakes get near our house.'

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.
