China - July 26, 2024

Fujian Province in east China made sound preparations in advance to minimize the possible damage caused by Typhoon Gaemi, which made its second landfall in the province on Thursday evening after hitting China's Taiwan region.

Parts of eastern and southern China are bracing as Typhoon Gaemi has made landfall in Putian City of Fujian Province. Rescue teams were deployed ahead of Gaemi's arrival, while other departments were ready to respond to any possible damage and environmental impact.

Before the typhoon landed, Putian City organized more than 140 rescue teams in advance, and dispersed them in various towns and villages. At the same time, equipment such as rubber boats and water pumps, as well as emergency supplies such as quilts and blankets were prepared. Rivers and canals were also dredged in advance.

On Friday morning, local departments once again targeted the problem of flood-prone areas in the urban region. They further inspected and cleared the drainage channels, rainwater outlets and inspection wells around the sections prone to waterlogging to ensure smooth drainage.

The local water conservancy department is also closely monitoring the water level changes in various reservoirs and rivers in Putian City.

Staff members and crew from a local electric company of the State Grid in Sanshan Town, Fuqing City of Fujian have also been deployed to affected areas for emergency repairs.

"Gaemi is the first typhoon to make direct landfall in our province so far this year. Our power supply station has conducted a handful of preparations in advance. A team of 106 members are well prepared for emergency repairs in Sanshan Town. We have stocked up on machines and materials for emergency repairs following the landfall of the typhoon," said Yang Long, party official of the Sanshan power supply station.

Currently, State Grid Fujian Electric Power has assembled more than 680 emergency repair teams with nearly 1,000 staff members. More than 70 repair teams have been dispatched to areas that may be heavily affected, such as Fuzhou, Putian, and Ningde.
