US: LMPD SWAT Saves Woman from Kidnapper in St. Denis Standoff
Louisville, United States - September 10, 2024
In a gripping turn of events, Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) has released body camera footage capturing the tense rescue of a woman from her alleged kidnapper, 51-year-old Artis Chenault. The incident, unfolding in the St. Denis neighborhood on September 10, involved LMPD's SWAT team in a standoff that culminated in Chenault's arrest.
The ordeal began when police responded to a disturbance call in the 2800 block of Rockford Lane, where a witness reported seeing Chenault physically assaulting a woman before forcing her into his pickup truck and driving off. Subsequent surveillance footage confirmed the witness's account, setting the stage for a manhunt.
Officers traced Chenault's truck to a residence in the 3400 block of Shanks Lane. Here, the situation escalated into a standoff, with SWAT deploying to secure the scene. After intense negotiations and tactical maneuvers, the woman was safely extracted from the home, followed by Chenault's surrender without further violence.
Chenault now faces a litany of charges, including kidnapping with serious physical injury, painting a grim picture of the day's events. The body camera footage, released to the public, not only documents the police response but also underscores the bravery of the officers involved in the rescue operation.
