This is the terrifying moment a resident had a near miss with a cobra when he stepped over it while entering his home.

Reymart Magluyan opened the door of the house before leaping over the 3ft serpent in North Cotabato, the Philippines, on January 21.

CCTV footage shows Reymart almost stomping on the deadly reptile's tail but he spotted it and quickly made a sidestep.

He was screaming and backing away while the cobra looked for a way out of the home and slithered out the door.

The relieved local said: 'I was going to get some money when I saw something moving on the floor. I was so scared. I could have died that day.'

Reymart said they tried to search for the snake, but it disappeared outside, and it was already dark.

He added: 'We live next to a wide field. It could have escaped there. I hope it does not return.'

The Philippine cobra has a highly neurotoxic venom that can cause respiratory paralysis, leading to death if not treated promptly.

It can spit venom accurately up to several metres, aiming for the eyes of perceived threats. The venom can cause temporary or permanent blindness if it enters the eyes.
