Heavy snowfall triggers avalanche, disrupting transport networks
Heavy snowfall led to an avalanche, forcing people and livestock to flee as roads were completely blocked.
The incident took place in Beighpura Kamasui Kedna, within the Inderwal area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, on February 27.
Visuals show the region blanketed in snow, followed by an avalanche rumbling down a snow-covered mountainside. A few people and livestock were seen rushing out of the area.
According to reports, the avalanche severely impacted road infrastructure, leading to complete road blockages and disrupting connectivity in the area. Fortunately, all residents in the affected region have been confirmed safe.
Authorities are actively working to evaluate the extent of the damage and restore access. Efforts are underway to clear the roads and ensure the well-being of the residents.
Officials have assured that the situation is under control, with no reports of casualties or property damage. The area continues to be closely monitored by the authorities.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir have been experiencing rainfall in the lower regions, while snowfall continues in the higher altitudes. Officials have already urged people to take necessary precautions.
On Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several states and Union Territories.
The IMD forecast predicted significant rainfall and snowfall at isolated locations across Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on 27 and 28 February.
Additionally, some parts of Punjab are expected to receive heavy rainfall on 28 February, while both Punjab and Haryana have been warned of isolated hailstorms.
