Sheriff's deputy rescues dog tied to a burning house and reunites with family
From Macomb County Sheriff's Office
Macomb Township, MI – Monday, February 17, 2025, at approximately 12:39PM, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Deputies were dispatched to a Fire Department assist call for a possible structure fire at the 46000 block of Brentwood Street in Macomb Township.
The caller advised dispatch she observed smoke and flames coming from a gas dryer, located in the home’s basement. The caller also stated she had placed the family dog outside on his tether prior to calling 911 and no one else was in the home.
Deputies arrived and placed the caller in a patrol vehicle to stay warm and safe.
Realizing the family dog was still tethered outside the home, Deputy Eric McCombs rushed and grabbed a leash from his patrol vehicle. Deputy McCombs ran to the side of the home, and quickly, but calmly secured the dog. Deputy McCombs then rushed from the home with the dog, finally securing the dog in a patrol vehicle with the homeowner.
The outstanding communication by Dispatch and the quick actions of the MCSO Deputies on scene, ensured the safety of the two residents of the home and the family dog.
Sadly, the heroic efforts of the Macomb Township Fire Department were not enough to save the home from the fire.
