SHARONVILLE, Ohio — A raccoon with its paw caught in an inhumane trap was rescued from a car engine by Sharonville police, according to a post from the Sharonville Police Department on Facebook.

Sgt. Taggart and Officer Hondorf responded after a local woman discovered the animal while investigating issues under her car’s hood. To her surprise, she found the raccoon’s face peeking out from the engine compartment.

The animal had managed to crawl into the engine bay while ensnared in the trap. Officers carefully removed the raccoon and emphasized the dangers of using such devices, noting it was not the first time they had encountered similar situations.

“This could easily become dangerous for children if distressed animals are stuck in public areas,” the department warned.

The raccoon was freed and is expected to recover.
