Phoenix, United States - June 06, 2025 06/05/2025 06:45 pm GMT-0700 PEORIA, Ariz. – Peoria Police Department Community & Media Relations Unit. NEWS RELEASE Date: June 5, 2025 Sergeant Shelly Montes Telephone: (623) 773-8956 Fax: (623) 773-7015 For Immediate Release: Peoria Police Involved in Shooting At approximately 6:45 PM, on June 5, 2025, one Peoria Police Officer was involved in a shooting after responding to a Kidnapping incident near W. Pershing Avenue and 87th Lane. Preliminary information indicates an adult female was pushing her small child in a stroller while out on a walk in her community, near a greenbelt. She was approached from behind and bear-hugged by a male subject, who was unknown to her. During this physical altercation the male subject attempted to take her small child away from her, but was unsuccessful. She was able to call her husband who was near-by. Her husband came to the scene and attempted to contact the male subject in the cul-de-sac, north of W. Pershing Avenue and 87th Lane. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the male subject. The subject failed to comply with officer commands, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The officer fired at least one round at the subject, striking him. As other officers arrived on scene, they were able to take the subject into custody and render aid. The subject sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. At this time, the subject has not been identified. The officer involved was also transported to a local hospital as a precaution. This remains an active investigation. The Glendale Police Department will be taking the lead on this investigation as part of the West Valley Investigative Response Team (WVIRT), which is a standard protocol for incidents involving officer use of force. There is no ongoing threat to the community. We appreciate the patience and support of our community members while a thorough investigation is conducted. Please be advised that from this moment forward, the Glendale Police PIO office will be your point of contact to answer all questions related to this OIS. They can be contacted at Police_pio@glendaleaz.com
