Kind policemen hand out helmets to locals caught break law
This is the touching moment kind policemen handed out helmets to locals caught breaking the law.
Officer Issara Sinphunphon and his colleague decided to give hard hats to motorists for their safety while they patrolling in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand.
Footage shows the officers spotting a man riding in the outer lane on the highway on June 20.
Fines have risen to 2,000 Baht (45 GBP) recently amid a road safety crackdown, but poorer residents outside of cities struggle to scrape together such amounts.
So instead of a harsh penalty, the understanding officers stopped the motorist, had a brief conversation, and then placed a grey helmet on his head.
The Good Samaritans then caught up with another woman who they spotted riding her motorcycle without wearing a helmet.
The local said he was on his way to refuel his motorcycle.
Officer Issara told the rider: 'Next time, make sure to wear a helmet.'
The pair then hopped back into their vehicle, waved goodbye, and continued their patrol.
Officer Issara Sinphunphon said: 'Road safety is very important. We don't want anyone to experience incidents on the road. While we can't prevent every accident, we try to help stop major injuries when they do happen.'
Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in highways and education, contributing to its high accident rates. Only a few African nations have worse road safety.
Thailand currently has one of the world's worst road safety records, with a fatality rate of 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people. The government aims to reduce this to 12 deaths per 100,000 by 2027.
Generous expat Rick Brown, 57, is another person who has taken it upon himself to try and improve the situation. He hands out free helmets to locals he spots riding illegally.
