A crocodile entered a family's home before being chased out of a village in India.

The 6ft reptile caused panic when it was spotted by the main door, prompting locals to rush in and help in Laksar, Uttarakhand, on August 13 at 1 am.

Footage shows the beast waddling down the street as a group of volunteers pursued it back toward the river.

The animal initially resisted, stopping on the street, but the men used a catching pole with a loop to secure its neck.

The croc struggled to break free, but authorities soon arrived and safely loaded it onto a truck to return it to the wild.

Forest ranger Gurjant Singh said: ‘There was a commotion and soon the villagers gathered in the area to assist.

‘Our team reached them at 2 am. It was dark and the crocodile was huge so it was extremely challenging.'

The predator was soon returned back to its habitat. No one was reported hurt.
