A driver led a chase on BR-101, in Mangaratiba (RJ), Brazil, after disobeying a stop order from the Federal Highway Police (PRF). The driver had been caught making illegal overtakes but chose to flee, covering about nine kilometers and committing further violations that put both drivers and pedestrians at risk.

When he was finally stopped and the vehicle was towed to the impound lot, he was fined for: overtaking on a continuous line in the opposite lane, driving without completing the mandatory refresher course after a suspended license, forcing passage between vehicles in opposite directions, disobeying a traffic officer’s order, and driving without one of the identification plates.

According to the PRF, the driver had already been arrested in 2017, also on BR-101 in Itaguaí, when he set fire to a car that was being impounded. At that time, he did not have a driver’s license, the vehicle was not registered, had accumulated more than 350 fines, and carried several debts. During the procedure, the man tried to distract the officers and set the car on fire with one agent still inside, before being detained and taken to the Federal Police.
