Geeky computer programmer 'caught using fake notes for romps with prostitutes'
A geeky computer programmer was arrested for allegedly using fake money to pay for romps with prostitutes in Thailand.
Bachelor Kapkan Chaiyaphan, 32, told police he was fed up with working from home on his web business, so he dreamed up the idea of printing cash to live the high life.
He handed counterfeit notes to sex worker Arinrada, 25, when she arrived for an outcall appointment at his condominium in Bangkok.
But the furious sex worker tried to change the Euro notes at a money counter only to be told they were fakes. She complained to police and officers raided Kapkan's room on November 8.
Cops allegedly discovered a stash of counterfeit money along with methamphetamine. They counted out 2.19 grams (0.08 ounces) of crystal meth in two plastic bags on a bathroom shelf, along with 2,500 baht and 500 Euros in fake notes. There were also counterfeit US dollars that Kapkan had printed at home.
Police Colonel Sirawit Inthorn, superintendent of the Metropolitan Police Division 5 Investigation Division, said: 'Before the arrest, Ms Arinrada reported that she had been hired to entertain the suspect at a condominium in Wong Sawang. He paid her with three 100 Euro notes, which she later found to be fake when exchanging them for Thai baht.
‘The suspect and confiscated items were handed over to the inquiry officer of Prachachuen Police Station for further legal action.'
Bespectacled Kapkan allegedly admitted to buying drugs from a foreigner in the city's Royal City Avenue nightclub district, which is popular with young Korean and Chinese tourists.
He said he had the idea to use counterfeit money while playing drinking games with Chinese holidaymakers for cash. After discovering the notes he won were fake, he kept them as templates to try printing his own.
Kapkan claimed that he had to order special paper online and use old printers as newer ones had anti-counterfeiting measures. He then folded the bills to conceal imperfections before using them in transactions.
Police said Kapkan will be charged with posession and use of a Category 1 narcotic, and knowingly using counterfeit currency.
