A farmer in central India was left stunned after his pet chicken swallowed a cobra whole.

At a village near Kalburgi in Karnataka state, farmer Nanjappa Hukeri was worried when he saw a young cobra in his backyard last Sunday (November 2).

Concerned that the snake would kill his chickens and pose a threat to the family as well, he watched anxiously as a rooster stepped in to defend its flock.

To Hukeri's amazement it pecked up the cobra and swallowed it whole easily. The cobra struggled and tried to escape, but was no match for the rooster.
