Herd of wild elephants walk knee-deep in floodwater foraging for food in northeast India
A herd of wild elephants were seen wading through floodwater foraging for food after heavy rain lashed the state of Assam, India.
The footage, filmed in the village of Salmora in Majuli on July 12, shows a herd of wild elephants wading through knee-deep water.
Sources suggest the herd strayed out of the forest in search for food after the flood left them devastated in their natural habitat.
Dhemaji in Upper Assam and Barpeta in Lower Assam were the worst-hit after the water levels in the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries rose due to heavy rainfall.
A total of 11 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were deployed and evacuated 487 villagers.
