Indian officials on Sunday (April 18) seized one tonne of cannabis from a truck in southern India.

Footage captured in Gorapur Village in the state of Andhra Pradesh showed the vehicle laden with bales of marijuana.

According to local media, excise officials stopped the lorry for inspection and the alleged smugglers fled the scene.

The drugs and the vehicle were confiscated by the authorities.

Excise officials recovered and seized 1000 kg (2204 lbs) of marijuana from a truck in southern India's Andhra Pradesh on April 18. The incident took place in Gorapur Village in Dumbriguda Mandal in Visakhapatnam District.

A video features the officials recovering cannabis from within a lorry in broad daylight. Following this, they seize all the illicit items concealed within the truck and also confiscate the vehicle.

Excise officials conducted an inspection at Gorapur in the Dumbriguda zone under Araku Valley Excise Circle. Following this, the suspects were caught smuggling 1000 kg (2204 lbs) of cannabis. Moreover, the accused left the pickup vehicle and fled the scene while the excise officers stopped and inspected the lorry. Furthermore, the excise officials have seized the vehicle and are interrogating the accused.
