Houses were submerged in the flood aftermath of Typhoon Khanun in the Philippines.

Footage shows homes along Apalit Bridge in Calumpit town, Bulacan province underwater with only their roofs visible on August 1.

Typhoon Khanun had slammed into the country while residents were still reeling from Super Typhoon Doksuri's onslaught that killed at least 30 in the country last week.

Local officials have placed Bulacan province under a state of calamity as floods displaced some 228,000 families.

State weather agency PAGASA said Khanun, known in the country as 'Falcon', has left the Philippine monitoring zone on August 1 but will continue to amplify the southwest monsoon. It was headed towards the East China Sea while decelerating, forecasters said.

Tropical Philippines sees an average of 20 storms per year. The Southeast Asian nation - ranked among the most vulnerable to climate change - grapples with devastating floods and landslides annually.
