A heroic man held up a girl hanging out of a balcony for more than 10 minutes until firefighters arrived in southern China.

The video was filmed in Chongqing on October 16. A girl's head was stuck in between the security bars and her body was suspended precariously in mid-air.

A brave man sprang into action, climbing from a window below and reaching out to hold the girl's feet, preventing her from slipping further.

Recognising the need for additional support, he then fetched a chair to stand on, aiming to alleviate the pressure on the girl's head.

Horrified onlookers quickly dialled for firefighter assistance upon witnessing the unsettling scene.

The man held up the child for more than ten minutes until the firefighters arrived.

Without wasting a moment, the emergency personnel deployed hydraulic rescue tools to swiftly breach the entrance of the apartment. Once inside, they rushed to the scene of distress. Carefully cradling the girl's legs, the firefighters gently extricated her from the perilous gap in the balcony's protective railing.

Since the girl's guardians were nowhere to be found, the local police took the young girl under their wing, ensuring she remained safe and comforted after her harrowing ordeal.

10月16日16时许，重庆渝北区，龙山街道华渝怡景苑小区一幢居民楼上，有一名小女孩头部卡阳台栏杆下方缝隙处，身体悬在空中，情况十分紧急，因为小女孩家中无人，围观群众紧急拨打电话求助消防救援。
眼看小女孩体力不支，一名男子从楼下窗户攀爬到阳台下方，用手将小女孩的双脚托住。因高度不高，男子又找来椅子踩在上面，尽可能减少小女孩头部的挤压。
在男子托举了十多分钟后，16时20分，消防员终于赶到。
消防员紧急使用液压破拆工具组对入户门进行破拆。入户门破拆开后，消防救援人员立即前往小女孩被困点，将小女孩双腿护住，缓缓从阳台防护栏缝隙中将其救出。由于无法联系上小女孩监护人，小女孩暂时交由现场警察进行照看。
