Irfandi's story is a survivor of the eruption of Mount Marapi, West Sumatra

The story of one of the climbers from Padang State Polytechnic. When Irfandi was at the top of Mount Marapi during the eruption, he heard roaring and hot rocks raining, making the climbers try to save themselves. Monday. (04/12/2023).

When the volcano erupted, Rifandi tried to save himself by hiding under rails and blankets. When the ash spread over Irfandi, he tried to save three of his colleagues and one person from the group of climbers from Pekan Baru.

Rifandi departed from below on Saturday with 10 colleagues from the Padang State Polytechnic. On Sunday afternoon he was about to go down the mountain with his friends.

However, when he was about to descend, he heard the sound of an explosion from the top of the mountain, with a shower of hot gravel so that the climbers scattered to try to save themselves.

Rifandi, who was trying to save himself, took cover with his rail and a blanket, so Rifandi suffered a minor injury to the palm of his hand when it was touched by hot gravel.

When he was about to run, two of his friends asked for help, so Irfandi went up and helped three of his friends and guided them to a safe point and asked for help to Pokso Mount Marapi.

Rifandi was successfully rescued by the Joint Team of four people and immediately evacuated to the command post and rushed to the Padang Panjang District Hospital.

When the victim arrived at the command post, he was immediately greeted by sobbing parents who were worried about the victim's condition on the mountain.

The victim saw the atmosphere where the climbers scattered to save themselves and separated from the group. To date, 28 people are still trapped at the top of Mount Marapi and 35 people are still being searched and evacuated.

Mount Marapi, West Sumatra erupted on Sunday afternoon, with a height of volcanic ash of 3000 meters and erupted 36 times since the first eruption.

Rifandi told the parents of the other victims that he could only save three of his friends and one person from the group from Pekanbaru who was separated from the group.

"I could only guide 4 people, three of my friends and one person who was separated from the group from Pekanbaru, after arriving at the bottom I met Widia who was in a weak condition and tried to get us to a safer place," he said.
