A huge python was caught in a family's home in the Philippines.

The 8ft-long serpent slithered along the vines on plants outside the window before it moved through the window and startled residents in Iriga City, Camarines Sur province on April 15.

Footage shows the reptile coiled around the metal bars of the window by the kitchen sink.

Rescuers were called to the property and caught it using a pole. The animal tried to escape to nearby trees but it was eventually hooked and put in a sack.

Resident Ivy Fiona Jocom said: 'The reticulated python visited our home. It was safely surrendered to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.'

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
