A giant python weighing 100kg that preys on cows and chickens was caught by residents in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.

The 10 meter long snake was found by a farmer when he tried to attack his cow in Banabungi Village, Pasarwajo District, Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi on June 8.

Due to its large size, the farmer called his brother and neighbors so they could evacuate the snake, which they believed had eaten their lost animal.

Footage shows the python slithering under the grass as residents secure its neck.

At least seven people helped lift him on their shoulders and walk through the forest to take him away from their village.

'My brother is herding his cows. While walking along the road, one of the cows gave a loud roar and the sight of the snake scared him.' said Muhammad Andi.

The snake tried to hide in the swamp, but the villagers caught it before it ran further into the forest.
