Doctors at a Government General Hospital in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh performed a groundbreaking "Awake Craniotomy" on a patient, removing a brain tumor while she watched her favorite movie. This marks the first successful procedure of its kind at the hospital.

The incident took place at Kakinada Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kakinada District on September 17.

Visuals showed during the surgery, the patient remained fully conscious as the doctors skillfully performed the procedure. She was calmly watching her favorite movie on a tablet, showing no signs of discomfort. The operating room was filled with a sense of focus as the medical team carried out the delicate operation with precision, while the patient remained relaxed, immersed in the film. After the successful surgery, the patient posed for a photo with the doctors, smiling brightly in gratitude. The photo captured her seated in her hospital bed, surrounded by the medical team, all wearing relieved and happy expressions, celebrating the triumph of the procedure.

In a remarkable medical achievement, doctors at the Kakinada Government General Hospital (GGH) successfully removed a brain tumor from a female patient using the "Awake Craniotomy" procedure. The surgery, a first for the hospital, was performed while the patient, A Ananthalakshmi of A Kottapalli, watched her favorite movie 'Adhurs', starring Jr NTR and Brahmanandam.

Anantalakshmi had been experiencing symptoms including weakness in her right leg and arm, headaches, fainting, and numbness on the right side of her body. After visiting several hospitals where the treatment was deemed expensive and complex, she was admitted to GGH on September 11.

Doctors discovered a 3.3x2.7 cm tumor on the left side of her brain. On Tuesday, they conducted the surgery with minimal sedation, allowing Anantalakshmi to remain awake and enjoy the film, which helped her remain calm during the two-and-a-half-hour operation.

The surgery was carried out under the supervision of senior doctors and anesthetists. Post-operation, Anantalakshmi was able to sit up and have breakfast, and she is expected to be discharged within five days. The medical team described the procedure as a landmark achievement for the hospital.
