Officers Sloan and Welge Jr sprang into action and rescued a resident from a fire in their apartment in Marion, Illinois.

Upon arrival the duo spotted that the resident had fallen and was unable to evacuate on her own. Without hesitation, the officers forced entry into the smoke-filled apartment, located the woman, and safely brought her outside to safety.

Once the woman was safe, the officers returned inside and extinguished the blaze.

When seconds mattered, Officers Sloan and Welge Jr. of the City of Marion, Illinois Police Department sprang into action—proving once again that they truly do it all. On April 21, 2025, the officers responded to a stove fire at a local apartment, where they quickly discovered a dangerous situation unfolding.

Upon arrival, smoke was visible and alarms were sounding. Even more concerning, the resident had fallen and was unable to evacuate on her own. Without hesitation, the officers forced entry into the smoke-filled apartment, located the woman, and safely brought her outside to safety.

But their bravery didn’t stop there. After ensuring the resident was out of harm’s way, the officers returned inside and extinguished the fire themselves. Thanks to their fast, selfless response, no serious injuries occurred—and one grateful community member was spared from tragedy.
