On the night of April 28, 2025, Sarasota Police officers responded to a distressing call involving a man in a mental health crisis on the Ringling Bridge. When they arrived, the individual had a rope and chain around his neck and was standing on the outside of the bridge railing, putting his life at immediate risk.

Members of the department’s Crisis Negotiation Team spent several tense hours speaking with the man, offering support and working to de-escalate the situation. In the early morning hours of April 29, Sergeant Frangioni saw a crucial moment and acted quickly—grabbing the individual as Officers Roberts, Lynn, and Bruno helped pull him to safety.

“This incident highlights the importance of continued training and preparation for crisis intervention, as well as the strength of human connection and compassion,” said Chief Rex Troche. The Sarasota Police Department reminds the community that support is always available by calling 988 or texting HOME to 741741. You are not alone.
