PALM COAST, Fla. — A Welaka man was arrested after deputies said he was caught speeding at 107 mph and told officers he was late for a barber appointment.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said 57-year-old Michael Stanek was pulled over by a traffic unit deputy and cited for driving more than 50 mph over the speed limit, which qualifies as a “super speeder” offense in Florida.

Stanek was arrested and booked into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility before being released on a $150 bond. Officials reminded drivers that excessive speeding is a criminal offense that can result in jail time.

“So go the speed limit… even if you’re late for a haircut,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
