Douglas County Deputy Nearly Hit, Reminder Issued on Move Over Law
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A Douglas County deputy narrowly avoided being struck during a traffic stop when a driver failed to follow Colorado’s Move Over Law, officials said.
Deputy Forster was wrapping up a stop when a red Mazda drove past without moving over, nearly hitting both the deputy and his patrol car. The driver was cited for careless driving and failure to move over for a stationary emergency vehicle.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that close calls like this happen too often and reminded drivers that state law requires motorists to change lanes for any stationary vehicle with flashing hazards. If that’s not possible, drivers must slow down significantly.
“It’s simple — and it saves lives,” the agency said.
