Coast Guard, Canadian Air Force Medevac Fisherman Off Oregon Coast

ASTORIA, Ore. — A U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria medevaced a 40-year-old man from a fishing vessel about 180 miles offshore of Astoria on July 24, 2025.

Officials said the crew worked with a Royal Canadian Air Force CC-295 Kingfisher aircraft from 19th Wing in Comox, British Columbia, which provided assistance overhead with communications during the operation. The man was safely hoisted from the vessel and transported for medical care.

The joint response highlighted the cross-border coordination between U.S. and Canadian crews in emergencies at sea.
