In a remarkable display of courage, an off-duty Texas police officer stopped a young woman from jumping off a bridge in Houston. My friend and I assisted him, helping to calm the distressed woman until the Fire Department and other police units arrived on scene. This is the story of their amazing rescue.

My friend and I were out driving to the store when I saw a man who appeared to be wrestling with a young woman. I turned around to investigate what was happening as I was concerned that it might have been an assault. It was apparent after some observation that the man wrestling with the young woman was an off duty police officer who was firmly but gently leading the young woman off of a bridge. The young girl had attempted to jump off the bridge and only the police officer taking fast action prevented this tragedy. I assisted the officer in calming and gently restraining the young lady once she was off the bridge and along with the officer and a friend tried to calm her down. The fire department eventually arrived along with two police officers who took over. The off duty police officer was the only person who stopped to help this young person while she was on the bridge. My friend and I were the only ones who stopped to assist the officer in calming the young woman. I was very disappointed that dozens and dozens of cars drove by without checking on the young woman. The officer in the video is a true hero.
