GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — A driver has been cited after dangerously passing a stopped school bus while students were crossing the road, the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced.

The incident, caught on camera, shows a red truck disregarding the extended stop arm and flashing lights of the bus. Troopers from the Gallipolis Post later located the vehicle and issued a citation to the driver.

Authorities emphasized the critical importance of following Ohio’s school bus laws, particularly as students return to class. State law requires all drivers to stop when a school bus activates its flashing red lights and extends its stop arm.

“This is a reminder to every motorist: STOP for school buses when their lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended,” the patrol said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol thanked Gallipolis City Schools for sharing the video and urged drivers statewide to remain vigilant and prioritize safety in school zones and neighborhoods.
