Kind neighbour climbs gate to rescue paralysed elderly man who collapsed in driveway
This is the heartwarming moment a kind neighbour climbed a gate to rescue a paralysed elderly man who had collapsed in his driveway.
Pakonyot Rapheewarangkoon, 41, and his girlfriend spotted the pensioner lying helpless on the ground as they drove past a property in Hat Yai, Thailand.
Pakonyot did not hesitate to climb over the metal barrier to assist him when he discovered the struggling resident on the morning of November 16.
Footage shows the kindhearted passerby speaking with the man to check his condition before clambering over the gate.
After jumping inside, he carefully supported the homeowner, helping him reach a metal handrail so he could regain his footing.
The pensioner was then able to hold firmly onto the railing as he inched back inside his home.
Pakonyot said: 'My girlfriend told me she saw an old man slip on the ground, and it looked like he was trying to get up but couldn't.'
The couple, who were on a red motorcycle, turned around to find the man desperately clutching at a guide rail.
Pakonyot recalled that he repeatedly shouted for anyone inside the house and even called a neighbour to act as a witness before entering the compound, fearing he might be accused of trespassing.
He added: 'His body was weakening, but thankfully, he was responsive. If he had hit his head, it could have been much worse.'
The man's daughter returned shortly after the rescue, explaining she had briefly left to buy food while her father performed his morning physiotherapy exercises.
Pakonyot, who cares for his own ailing mother at home, felt a personal connection to the situation. He said: 'I'd like to remind anyone with elderly relatives who cannot look after themselves: leaving them alone is incredibly risky. Even simple exercise is a struggle for them. It's a danger that shouldn't be ignored.'
Pakonyot, known locally as 'Ning', is a well-known music video actor and the owner of the Chut Phak Lo barbershop.
