Good Samaritans save cat after cruel yobs stitched together its eyes
ARCHIVE / USED BY MAIL ON 02/04/17. MAY STILL BE INTERESTING FOR OTHERS.
Shocking footage shows how a one-month-old kitten was rescued after sick attackers stitched together her eyes, ears and nose.
The terrified cat was found wandering the streets unable to eat on February 14 in Manilla, Philippines.
She could not see as her eye lids had been fully closed with thick cotton sewn through the skin and kept bumping into things. Her nose and ears were also stitched together. She had survived like that for around a week as the wounds had already healed.
But cat lover Leonora Calamba, 41, found the kitten stumbling around alleyways near her home and immediately took her inside for treatment.
Footage shows the cat - nicknamed July - cry as Leonora and her family carefully unpick the stitches.
Leonora said: ‘’The poor kitten was in pain. It was so hard to take out all of the stitches. She was screaming and meowing because it was hurting her so much.
‘’But doing this was the only way to save her. Whoever could do such a thing to a newborn kitten is sick, they need to be punished before they do it again.’'
July ha now recovered but had been left with scars on her ears and nose. The family have adopted her as a pet.
They reported the incident to the local authority but the abusers have never been found.
Leonora's niece Jonil Manatad Novela, 21, added: ‘’We don’t know who did this. We can only assume that it’s some kind of psychopath. Who else could do this kind of cruelty to a defenceless kitten? They are a useless person, no heart, they are sick.''
