Indonesian grandmother, 80, rescued after falling down hillside and being stuck for 10 days
This is the heartwarming moment an 80-year-old grandmother was rescued after falling down a hillside and being trapped under a ravine for 10 days.
A group of villagers were walking along a nature trail reach a temple in Bali, Indonesia when they heard the woman shouting for help on Thursday morning (October 1).
They were shocked after seeing the old woman lying at the bottom of a 150-metre incline and unable to move.
One of the villagers who found her, Dek Brogog, said: "We were going to a temple to pray, but we heard her screaming on the way. We looked around and found her crying at the bottom."
A resident ran back to the village to look for volunteers who rushed back to the forest with a huge wicker basket and thick ropes.
A brave villager volunteered to descend the thick ravine and carry the woman inside the basket before the others helped pull her up.
Everyone cheered when she was finally pulled to safety while the thankful grandmother cried out of happiness.
She was given water and food before they rushed her to a local clinic for health check up.
However, the doctors were amazed that she was not injured after falling in the deep ravine without food for more than a week.
Speaking after, the old woman said she left home to have a walk but was lost in the forest. She then slipped down the steep hillside and was unable to move or climb back out..
She said: "I am grateful that they saw me here. I did not eat for 10 days and was only crying the whole time, praying that someone would find me.''
The village head, Made Mustika, said the old woman was not hurt. She was taken to her family who lives at a nearby village.
He said: "The old woman is a real survivor. She will live a long life thanks to the kind villagers who saved her.''
