Wildlife officers in Indonesia removed a rare clouded leopard yesterday (April 28) that was trapped in the bathroom of a home.

It took three hours for officers from the Natural Resources Conservation Center to coax the big cat into a cage at the home in the Pasaman district of West Sumatra.

Officers said they suspected the rare and protected feline entered the residential area after fighting with other clouded leopards in a forest area at the foot of Mount Pasaman.

The adult male was taken for observation prior to release.

A clouded leopard (neofelis diardi diardi) is evacuated from the home of a local Indonesian resident.

The animal that was initially thought to be a Sumatran tiger was found to be trapped in a bathroom behind a resident's house in Pasaman district, West Sumatra province on Wednesday (28/04) at around 12.30 p.m.

It took three hours for officers from the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) to herd the clouded leopards to the cages that had been prepared.

The forest ecosystem controllers of the West Sumatra BKSDA, Ade Putra, said that this rare and protected animal was suspected of having entered the residential area after fighting with other clouded leopards in a protected forest area at the foot of Mount Pasaman, 700 meters from the scene.

Adult male clouded leopards in good health were brought to the KSDA Agam Resort office for observation before being released.
