There has been a sharp spike in smuggling and illegal trading cases during the pandemic in southern India's Tamil Nadu on July 8. The incident took place in Nagapattinam.

Visuals feature several logs of red sandalwood lying on the ground in the middle of the day. The authorities place the seized wood in a line-like formation and stand adjacent to it while a police official discloses the details of the case.

Some smugglers were ambushed by the Task Force in the Nagapattinam forest area during the early hours of the day. However, some managed to escape in the darkness while the officials caught one of them and took him in their custody for further interrogation. The arrested smuggler was identified as C. Shivakumar, hailing from Tiruvannamalai and seized 40 red sandalwoods. Moreover, the cops are questioning the culprit and revealed that 15 people may be involved in this.

Furthermore, this raid was carried out on the instructions of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Kanti Rana Tata, Reserve Sub Inspectors Vishwanath and Suresh, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Muralidhar.
