Volunteers rescue stray kitten trapped in empty flooded house in northeast Thailand
This is the heartwarming moment volunteers rescued a stray kitten trapped in a flooded house after locals were evacuated in northern Thailand.
Officers found the black-and-white moggie after hearing its cries coming from the empty home in Ubon Ratchathani province on October 3.
They circled around the house and discovered the feline stuck behind the grilles of the windows, unable to escape due to the high waters.
The rescuers carried the terrified animal back to their boat, but it kept leaping back into the water.
They later let the cat ride on their backs and jump onto a rooftop while the floods recede.
Volunteer Tanathip Chaiyot said: 'Locals were forced to leave their houses but the stray stayed in the same area. We always carry animal food whenever we get on the boat.
Heavy rain has been battering large parts of Thailand for the last three months. The torrential weather was compounded by Typhoon Noru, which brought severe deluges to the northeast region causing floods and overflowing rivers.
Typhoon Noru made landfall in Vietnam last Wednesday and weakened to a tropical depression as it moved into Thailand on Thursday, September 29.
One person in Thailand's Sisaket province died when powerful winds knocked a tree onto a pickup truck, injuring two others inside. While in the Philippines, where Noru first struck, at least 10 people were killed and an estimated 50,000 displaced by the severe weather.
